Cynthia J. Hickman has 26 years of nursing experience at St. Lukes Episcopal Hospital, Houston, Texas. She received her Diploma of Nursing from Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, Toledo, Ohio and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Prairie View A & M University. Cynthia graduated from Walden University, with a Masters in Nursing; Specialization in Nursing Education. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Health Services with a Specialization in Leadership from Walden University. She has received numerous awards, published articles, and presented for local and national nursing organizations.
Cynthia has many passions, but the one she embraces the most is mentoring the next generation of nurses. After winning a $50,000 cash award from Johnson & Johnson in 2006, she started the Cynthia J. Hickman Pay It Forward Nursing Scholarship. To date, she has awarded 10 $1,000 scholarships, and each recipient gets an autographed book from Catherine Ryan Hyde, author of the novel "Pay It Forward.
Cynthia Hickman, BSN, RN, BC-CVN, CM, has always liked to help people - and at 15 years of age her first job was as a lifeguard where she also got her first taste of rescuing someone.
